Trip to St. Louis & Other fun things

Last week, Russ and I volunteered as chaperons for the Young Women's' High Adventure. We went to St. Louis. It was a great time! My mom did a great job planning it. We got to go to the zoo, ride segues, go see Peter Pan, and then we got to go to the city museum. If anyone is making a trip through St. Louis, they must stop there! It was pure insanity, plain and simple. In a few years, we will bring Megan back and let her go wild. On the way back, we read out loud the seventh book of Harry Potter. I was so excited to finally read it! It is the best, and now my favorite in the series. Enough about that.
We also had another baby shower here. It was so fun, and we recieved such cute things.

Megan is also really into books. Alisha was reading this Spanish Winnie the Pooh book to her, and she just got so excited. She also helps Rebecca with suduko. She is a brillant baby!

Fishing in Indiana

Russ went fishing the otherday with Andrew, Elizabeth's brother, and Andrew's friend Spencer. We went on Spencer's lake at his house. It was fun, not quite as much as hitting the Provo river, but a good time. I caught bluegill and then Spencer used them as bait for the bass. I'm told this is illegal unless you are on a private lake. Since we were on Spencer's lake, it was just fine. Spencer pulled out this monster. We measured it and it was 23". Spencer says it was over 7 lbs. I held it in the water while Spencer went for the measuring tape, and I could get both fists in its mouth. The best part was when Spencer was pulling it in. When it got close to him in the shallows, he dove in and wrestled it. He said he didn't want it to get away. We threw him back and hope he is ready to get caught again when he's put on another pound or so.

Our Life as Nomads Part 1

We are now offically without a home to call our own. On June 30th, we moved our of our Wymount Apartment in Provo. We have lived there for almost 3 years, so it was quite the feat. We spent a few days in Salt Lake with Russ's family. On the fourth, we went up to Huntsville. It was, as always, so fun. We came back down to Salt Lake for the fireworks. We could see them from the balcony, but Megan complained because it was really windy out there. So she and dad watched the Curt's aquarium instead, while Momma enjoyed the fireworks. She really enjoyed watching the fish move. I think it is because they move so slowly.
The next day, Elizabeth took Megan on her very first plane ride. She had a blowout just as we were getting through security, and then became very hungry and was not shy about letting everyone around us know. She also flat out refused to take a bottle, so Mom and Megan got more aquinted with an airport bathroom then I ever wanted to. After that fiasco, she became as good as gold, sleeping the entire way from Salt Lake to Chicago. On the plane to Evansville, she decided that she had had enough of traveling for the day, and again was not shy about letting everyone on the plane know as well. Luckily, the plane was really loud (and empty), so most people didn't have to hear. Russ, on the other hand, got to drive. He drove for pretty much 24 hours straight through, with no problems. He won the bet with Elizabeth on how many gallons of gas it would take to get there (He bet 50, I bet 72).
Megan also had her first adventure. She got locked in the car. After frantic searching for the spare set keys, we called 911. They sent a sheriff, a fire truck, and a fire chief to help. The car was proving very difficult to break into. We also called AAA. It became a contest to see who could get the door opened. In the end, it was the fire truck. Megan slept through most of it, and did cry a little, but when we got to her, she was just looking around like no big deal.
Megan has changed so much in the short time that we have been here. She has gotten really interested in her hands, tries so hard to grab for toys, smiles at her cousin Kate, and loves the gym that we bought her. She is especially enamored with the star on top. It lights up and plays music. She is growing bigger everyday, and will soon be out of her 0-3 months clothes. It is almost time to get the next bigger size of diapers.
Today, we saw our first rain shower. Megan felt some raindrops, and when it had pretty much stopped, we tried to go out and play in the puddles. Megan was more interested in the bush by the front door, then the puddles, but that will change, I think.

Blessing

Megan was blessed on Father's Day (June 17th), in Salt Lake. It went very well. There were a lot of family members present, which is nice, thanks to all. Megan also got to meet her Grandpa Kuhlenhoelter for the first time. It was so awesome that he was able to come. We also sent the first load of our apartment to Evansville. That van can hold so much more than you think it can! On Thursday, Megan went in for her 2 month check up. She weighs 10 lb 5 oz (37%) and is 23.6 inches long (92%) This was the one where she had to get her first set of vaccinations. It was really hard on all three of us, but she calmed down really quickly and was sleep before we even got back out to the car. Also on Thursday, she got her first illness. She was running a fever, but other than that she was doing good. I think Dad was more upset about it then she was. I think that she got it from Mom, who also was sick that week. We also finally sold the Corolla. It did not go quietly! Russ spent Monday trying to fix it, with no luck. Fortunately, Russ's Dad was just as stubborn as the car was and was able to fix it in the end.

8 weeks

Hi everyone! After reading Dave and Casey's update, it inspired me to update ours. Everything is great here. Megan is doing so well. She is such a good baby. She isn't losing her hair, far from it, in fact it is getting thicker. But, of course, it still stands up straight on the top. She is going to be so mad at us in about 12 years, for letting her be seen like that. Of course, everyone else thinks it is so cute. I weighed her yesterday, and she is about 10 pounds. She still seems so small. It is too funny because she should be starting to get too big for her 0-3 months clothes, and yet, they are still so baggy on her. She is a long drink of water, as they say. This picture is so cute because she is trying so hard to get the baby on the package to talk to her. It is really funny because real babies don't really capture her attention the same way. She also always manages to get her hand out of blankets, no matter how well Mom tries to wrap her up. She is going to be another Houdini! She has also discovered that she can lift up her lower half of her body (diaper changes can be a real riot!), so she can occasionally manvour herself on to her side, and sometimes she can roll over from her tummy over on her back. She is still a real wiggle wort, and I am afraid that one day she will get dropped. She is also so alert for a little baby. I sometimes forget that she is still so young. She gets attention from everyone when we go out. She is a big hit. She is getting blessed on Father's Day, and we are all so excited for that. She seems to be going through another growth spurt, because she now wants to eat every three hours at night, instead of going a lot longer. I really got used to the 5-7 hour stretches, but what baby wants baby gets. I hope that once her spurt is over, she will go back to that. A mom can dream.
